QUIVIRA

Los Cabos, Mexico

01

It is hard for me to imagine more beautiful views than those experienced at the cliffs of Quivira. Recently voted as one of the World’s Top 100 Greatest Golf Courses by Golf Digest, it is guaranteed to be one spectacular round of golf.

The round starts with 4 desert holes, the first after a short drive from the club house which provides the first scenic views of the Pacific Ocean. My first impression: this was going to be an unforgettable round of golf.

Pristine fairways and fast greens made up for a fun first couple of holes, but nothing can prepare you for the par 4 5th hole. The drive up the cliff is truly amazing, and the anticipation grows with every inch your golf cart climbs; and once you get up there, it does not disappoint. The rest area provides some free snacks, sports or alcoholic beverages and quesadillas for golfers to enjoy while they get their first glimpse of the view from the Quivira cliffs. It has been one of the best golf experiences of my life, probably magnified by the perfect weather, pristine conditions of the course and superb service from everyone at the property.

By the time you finish the 8th hole, free lunch will be served for your whole group, another impressive display of attention to detail. Once you finish your meal, you will be notified if the group in front has left the green of the beautiful par 3 9th and it is time for you and your group to tee up.

The second nine are in my opinion a bit friendlier to the average golfer but challenging enough to make it fun for everyone. One additional rest stop provides some refreshments that come quite handy even during winter months where the sun can still be unforgiving.

In summary, Quivira is a spectacular golf course where you are bound to use your camera more than in any other course I have played in. The views from the cliff holes make it hard for the desert holes to stand out, but they were almost as beautiful and impressive as the rest of the course. I would say that it is quirkier than it is challenging, but it makes for an incredibly fun round of golf, where you will find yourself distracted by the amount of picture worthy landscapes.
